Job Fairs
Tips for a Successful Job Fair Experience!
- Dress and groom yourself carefully.
- – Professional attire is most appropriate for job fairs.
- – Check yourself again in a mirror before you enter.
- Always carry at least 5 copies of your resume with you.
- Be friendly and courteous to every employer and representative at the job fair. They are always watching.
-
When completing applications:
- Follow written instructions carefully and write neatly and clearly.
- Emphasize your skills and accomplishments. Talk about what you have done, not what you will do.
- Do not leave sections blank. Put a line through the section or write ‘NA’ if it does not apply to you.
- Use an erasable pen if preferred to allow for changes.
-
Interview suggestions:
- Know your strongest skills and experiences relevant to this job. Be prepared to give examples.
- Practice answering difficult questions in advance. (See below for a list of most frequently asked interview questions.)
- Be friendly and natural during the interview. Take a deep breath to help you relax once you are seated before the questions begin.
- Answer the question "Why should I hire you?" - even if it is not asked.
- Summarize your key strengths for the job before you leave. And if you want the job, say so.
- Follow up after the interview with a thank you note directed to all members present during the interview.
